Electric vehicle charging network Ignitis ON has agreed with Maxima to build electric vehicle charging stations in Latvia and Estonia, expanding the cooperation that has already been successfully launched in Lithuania. Ignitis ON charging points will be located at Maxima stores in all three Baltic countries, allowing up to 300 electric vehicles to be charged simultaneously.
In Latvia, 2025 electric car charging points will be built at 81 Maxima stores located in 32 cities by 21, ensuring high-power electric car charging in all regions of Latvia. Four or more charging points will be available in Cēsis, Jūrmala, Madona and Valmiera. Nine stations with a total of 28 charging points will be located in Riga, and the largest station with six charging points will be at the Maxima XXX store on Saharova Street.
We are purposefully developing the electric car charging network in such a way as to provide drivers with a fast, reliable and convenient service both in everyday life and during work or holiday trips throughout the Baltics. We all visit grocery stores both near our place of residence and work, and when traveling. The new stations will allow you to conveniently combine your usual shopping with car charging. Already by the end of next year, the electric car charging network near Maxima stores will have such extensive coverage that it will easily fit into everyone's travel route.
Eimantas Balta, Head of E-Mobility at Ignitis Group
The creation of an electric car charging network at Maxima stores is a significant step in development and one of the sustainability initiatives we are implementing to move towards the company's sustainability goals – to promote an environmentally friendly lifestyle, habits and opportunities for our customers. A large part of our customers come to us by car, and thanks to the cooperation with Ignitis Latvija, our customers will be able to combine the pleasant with the useful this summer – to simultaneously make purchases necessary for everyday life and charge their electric car, thus saving not only money on daily purchases, but also valuable time for everyone. I am convinced that the introduction of e-car charging points will improve the shopping experience of our customers, and Maxima will also become a favorite stop on the way to relax, gain energy and purchase the desired products.
Maxima Latvija Real Estate Development and Construction Department Director Viktors Novikovs
The charging points will be equipped with both European standard CCS2 and Asian standard CHAdeMO connectors, allowing them to serve a wide range of electric car models. To meet the growing demand for fast charging, all charging points in Latvia will have ultra-fast direct current (DC) power from 200kW to 400kW. At these stations, the latest and most modern electric car models will reach a battery charge from 20% to 80% in 15-20 minutes. In turn, 12 charging points will provide slow alternating current (AC) charging with a power of up to 22kW, which allows an electric car to be charged from completely empty to full in four to five hours. These points will be suitable for customers who plan to spend a longer time in or around a supermarket and want to charge their electric car at lower energy costs.
There are currently almost 110 Ignitis ON charging points available throughout Latvia, located both in Riga and in the regions. It has already been reported that Ignitis Group will invest more than 115 million euros in the creation of a fast charging network for electric vehicles in the Baltics over three to five years, installing more than 2000 electric vehicle charging points, of which about half have already been built. The company's goal is to create the widest fast electric charging highway connecting the Baltic States with Poland and the Scandinavian region. Most of the charging points will be high-power charging points, with a capacity starting from 150 kW.
